Installation and maintenance tool BIRD™
The Belt Installation & Rotation Device BIRD™ (develop by Gates) protects equipment operators against pinch points during belt installation and maintenance. While a drive is shut down and locked out, the BIRD™ helps to install and inspect the rotational driving safety.
Before the launch of the BIRD™, operators would pull on the belt the edges of the sheave or sprocket to turn the drive during belt inspection or installation.
Regardless of the care taken, this procedure is inherently dangerous — a split second leads to a hand or finger pulled into a pinch point.
